Prepare yourself for change and learning. Almost everyone initially has misconceptions about what hypnosis really is and what it can do. When you really do find out about what hypnosis can do you will be surprised, curious and want to know more. The following text explains the useful truth about hypnosis:
“Is it safe to go into hypnosis?”
Very safe. You enter hypnosis via a deep relaxation technique and the entire session is safe and controlled at all times. Not only is it safe -experiencing, using, and understanding hypnosis is really interesting and useful.
“What does hypnosis feel like?”
It feels like a really easy connection with being deeply relaxed and calm, whilst still being aware of everything happening around you. It is a pleasant dream-like state, that is very similar to day-dreaming – which is why hypnosis seems so familiar. You will feel wonderfully relaxed, and you may well find that your sleep much better, as a result of experiencing and knowing hypnosis.
“Can I be referred by my GP (Medical Doctor)?”
Many NHS and private doctors now refer people to hypnotherapists. Even as early as in the 1950’s both the British Medical Association and the Aerican Medical Association recognized the use of hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis.
Will I be under the hypnotherapists power?”
No. You are in charge – you cannot be made to do anything against your will and you cannot be taken into hypnosis if you do not want to (which is contrary to what many people think). It is your experience and you are in control throughout – which is why people can also practice self-hypnosis.
“What if I can’t be hypnotised?”
You can. Everyone can. As long as you wish to enter into a learning and discovering trance you will. You and your unconscious know much more about trance than you realise consciously.
“What general benefits can I expect to notice from experiencing hypnosis?”
You can expect to notice feeling and being more mentally calm and more physically relaxed in yourself, you’ll feel more confident in yourself and find your quality of sleep has improved. And that is just the start.
“Can I bring a friend to my sessions?”
Of course. If you would like to bring a friend or a family member along to the initial free consultation, or to all sessions – that is quite all right. Friends and family are always welcome.
“How many sessions will I need?”
That depends on what is being worked on, and what it is that you wish to change. But hypnosis helps people fast, even deep behavioral problems can only take a few sessions to resolve. Typically 2-4 sessions is required for most people to get them the change they want.
